Dr. Bertha Maxwell Roddey
Actively involved in the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Soror Maxwell-Roddey served as Charlotte Alumnae Chapter President, National First Vice-President, and the 20th National President. As National President, she gave leadership to the Sorority’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, leading the build of more than 350 houses in the United States, the Caribbean, and Africa.
During the administration of 20th National President Bertha Maxwell Roddey, Ph.D., the Sorority constructed 22 stable and affordable homes in honor of the 22 Founders of the Sorority. The Sorority built one house in each of the seven regions in 1993 and fifteen homes at the site of the 42nd National Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1994.

In 1996, the Sorority’s partnership expanded to the continent of Africa. In addition to this, the Sorority donated $500,000 in financial and in-kind support to Habitat for Humanity as it was the recipient of the 1992 Delta Christmas Party. #DSTHeritageMoment
